Information gathering aimed at maximising connectivity for Tasmania's West Coast is behind a visit by the Federal Communications Minister, Paul Fletcher.
The government's committed to 18 and a half million dollars for broadband upgrades.
The Minister's also presiding over a 4GX mobile phone project delivering a new base station for Tullah and service upgrades for the region's major centres.
"We'll be having a number of meetings with emergency services personnel and others, just to understand exactly what the issues are on the practical level. Of course under the Federal Government Black Spots Program, already almost 9 million dollars has been spent, 12 new mobile base stations around Braddon."
“This project will bring significant benefits to people living in regional communities on the Western Tasmanian Coast,” said Minister Fletcher.
The Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program is also delivering 47 new mobile base stations in Tasmania. More than 33 of these base stations have already been completed.
