There’s been no shortage of brand collaborations with Australia’s most famous breakfast time spread over the last few years and they are starting to get ridiculous. Listen up team and listen well “Vegemite does NOT go with EVERYTHING”!
We recently told you about the Hot Cross buns that were vegemite infused and while they were nowhere near as disgusting as the burger sauce ones they certainly “missed the brief” on what a Hot Cross bun should or could be. That’s where baking brand Greens have stepped up to the plate and said, “hold my spatula” and then proceeded to mix the bitter dark brown goo with what could be one of the most perfect out of the box Brownie recipes… I mean why?!?
If there is one thing the Jurassic Park movies taught us it’s that just because you can doesn’t mean you should and it begs the question, who is this for? If you are walking through Coles (where they are available) and spot the Vegemite version of Chocolate Browies next to the Chocolate version of Chocolate Brownies which one are you going to choose?
Vegemite is a great spread and I don’t mind adding a little to a Stir Fry on occasion or even in a scroll (which is completely different to a hot cross bun, but that’s an argument for another day), but I’m not having it on ice-cream or freezing it on a paddle pop stick as a treat for hot days.
It’s a mostly breakfast-time spread and these collabs need to stop!
