The World’s Biggest Crocodile Turns 120

Cassius, an astonishing 18-foot-long crocodile, is known as the largest reptile in the world and is believed to be celebrating what scientists think is his 120th birthday.

The incredible journey of Cassius began in 1984 when he was captured in the Finniss River, situated in the La Belle Station around 80kms from Darwin.

He was captured by a rope trap and relocated to his home on Green Island in the Great Barrier Reef, where he remains a huge tourist attraction at the Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Park. When captured, he was covered in scars and was missing a portion of his tail and nose, likely from a boat propeller. At the time of his capture, he was thought to be somewhere between 30 and 80 years old.

Since his capture, Cassius has earned a well-deserved place in the Guinness World Records. Measuring a huge 5.48 meters or 17 feet 11 inches in length (about the length of two ping pong tables) makes him the largest living crocodile in captivity.

Cassius’s has attracted visitors from far and wide, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, the King of Thailand, and former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Cassius, the world’s largest crocodile, will celebrate his 120th birthday in style with the ultimate birthday treats – chicken and tuna.
