ARIA Charts 2020 List

The End of Year ARIA Charts of 2020 have been officially released and it’s time to take a look back at the top songs of 2020.

Dominating the charts for 2020 were international stars The Weeknd and Harry Styles. Aussie music star Tones and I and ARIA Hall of Famers AC/DC also made a mark on the list.


 

Leading the overall Top 10 singles of 2020 was Canadian singer, The Weeknd, with his song 'Blinding Lights’. The song held the number one spot for 11 weeks on the ARIA chart, longer than any other single in 2020. The hit song also made it to the number one spot internationally, including the US Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles (OOC) end of year charts.

Local superstar Tones And I dominated the Australian Artists Singles list, with three of her songs making the Top 10 and two of them in the top two positions. The last time this happened was back in 1997 when Savage Garden topped the list with ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’ and ‘To The Moon And Back’.

Tones And I's viral hit 'Dance Monkey' took the number one spot, holding the number position in January for three weeks. The song was released in 2019 and held the number one spot for a record-breaking 21 weeks that year.

The massive hit brought the Victorian-born singer international fame, reaching number one in over 30 countries including the UK and number four on US Billboard Hot 100, even performing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Voice US. Since being released, the song has won several awards and broken multiple records. In 2019, Tones and I won the Grand Prize for the International Songwriting Competition and with 36.6 million searches, 'Dance Monkey' was also declared the most Shazamed song of all time. In the UK, the song stayed at number one for eleven weeks and broke the record for the most weeks spent at number one by a female artist. This was previously held by Whitney Houston's 'I Will Also Love You' and Rihanna and Jay-Z's 'Umbrella'.

On top of the overall ARIA Albums for 2020 was Harry Styles with his second album 'Fine Line'. It debuted at number one, being first released in December 2019, and only spent one week in the top position in 2020. The album still held strong throughout 2020 and remained in the Top 10 for 48 weeks in 2020 and ultimately took the top position for the year.

AC/DC claims the top spot for the Australian Artists Albums Chart, with their seventeenth studio album 'PWRϟUP'. The band also topped the same chart back in 2008 for their album 'Black Ice'. 'PWRϟUP' spent four weeks at number one in 2020. The album also reached number one in 21 countries across the globe.
